CCO collects and manages one of the most comprehensive healthcare data sets in Canada. The data is used to support research and informed decision making in Ontario's healthcare system. Data and analytics are integral to meeting the growing demand for greater health system accountability, better health outcomes and improved patient experience.

Data requests are accepted from:
- Researchers

How to request data
Please review the options in the table below for the types of data requests fulfilled by CCO. Please email datarequest@cancercare.on.ca with any questions you may have.
Cost of data
A cost recovery model is in place for research requests, and will soon be implemented for health system planning data requests. The charge is based on the type and complexity of your request. The fee considers the number of hours required to complete your request, including review and consultation with research and data analysts, review by a governance body, extracting data, linking data sets, performing quality assurance checks, preparation of data for release, and finally transferring the data. An estimate of the total cost will be provided in advance of request fulfillment.
In addition, if you need a cost estimate prior to submitting a data request (e.g. to support a research grant application), please contact us at datarequest@cancercare.on.ca.
Types of Data Requests
NOTE: In October 2014, CCO launched the new Ontario Cancer Registry (OCR), which applies the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (NCI SEER) program for counting multiple primaries and assigning histology (for data from years 2010 and later). Historic cases (1964–2009) have been imported into the OCR to allow for continued use for analytic purposes. For direct comparison purposes, users are advised to convert data from 2010 and later using the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) rules. If you have questions about the cancer registry, send an email to: ocrquestions@cancercare.on.ca .
