Taking Action to Prevent Chronic Disease

Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death in Ontario

Cancer Care Ontario has partnered with Public Health Ontario on a report to address the burden of chronic disease in Ontario

In 2007, chronic diseases were responsible for 79% of all deaths in Ontario.

We have developed 22 evidence-informed recommendations to:

  • Reduce exposure to four key risk factors: tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy eating and physical inactivity
  • Build capacity for chronic disease prevention
  • Work towards health equity

More about the report:

  • Brings together experts in the four risk factors, aboriginal health, public health, measurement and evaluation, and knowledge exchange
  • Identifies policy-based interventions and system-wide changes to inform provincial action on the four risk factors associated with chronic disease
  • Recommends a coordinated approach to chronic disease prevention in Ontario
