Oncology Nursing Program

Oncology nurses are the professionals most often available for patients and families as they experience cancer across all settings of care. From the moment of diagnosis individuals look to nurses for reassurance and understanding. Nurses help patients to regain control in the face of illness and to cope with vulnerability and uncertainty.

Oncology nurses play a fundamental role in cancer care, with the potential to influence and improve the quality of the cancer system at every level.

We created the Oncology Nursing Program to harness this potential and work with partners to advance cancer control through excellence in oncology nursing. The Program is providing clinical leadership to the Ontario Cancer Symptom Management Collaborative and the Patient Experience program and is a partner in our Disease Pathway Management initiative. Also partnering with the Regional Systemic Treatment Programs, the Oncology Nursing Program supports improvement in patient safety.
